- Jeev finishes tied-sixth at Nippon Series JT Cup
TOKYO, December 6 :
Jeev MIlkha Singh shot an even-par 70 to finish at sixth position at the Yen 130 million Golf Nippon Series JT Club which concluded at the Tokya Yomiuri Country Club. Jeev’s tournament tally of five-under 275 fetched im a prize purse of Yen 4,768,291.
Meanwhile, Shigeki Maruyama fired a brilliant 64 to enforce a play-off with Korea’s Kyung Tae-Kim after the two finished tied at a tournament tally of 271. Maruyama won the play-off to pocket a whopping Yen 40 million in prize money.
Jeev, who started the day tied-second, two strokes behind the leader, returned a flawless front-nine with a sea of pars interrupted by a lone birdie on the sixth. After making the turn however, the defending champion dropped shots on the tenth and 11th. Thereafter he managed a birdie on the 16th and two pared holes later finished the day at even-par. “My driving again was a concern today and my overall game was not where it normally sits when I return what one calls a really good round of golf,” said Jeev. “That is what it takes to win a tournament of this stature but though I am a tad disappointed at not winning my third Golf Nippon Series title, my overall performance this week has been satisfactory,” concluded the 57th ranked golfer in the world.
- Scintillating Jeev fires 65 to tie second at Japan
TOKYO, December 5 :
Jeev Milkha Singh, put himself in perfect position to pocket his fifth win on the Japan Golf Tour, with a brilliant five-under 65, that propelled him to tied-second place, within two strokes of the leader after the penultimate round of the Yen 130 million Golf Nippon Series JT Club being played at the Tokya Yomiuri Country Club. Jeev’s tournament tally now stands at five-under 205. Jeev has incidentally won the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup twice earlier once each in 2006 and 2008. Local lad Toshinori Muto was tied with the Indian.
Korean, Kyung Tae-Kim, did his maiden Japan Golf Tour title quest no harm with a brilliant round of 64 propelling him into the lead at seven-under 203. Meanwhile, overnight leader Shigeki Maruyama slipped to fourth place courtesy a third round even-par 70. Maruyama tallied 207.
Jeev’s round ironically, began disastrously with a double-bogey. Thereafter the fight-back was worth witnessing. The 38-year old caught fire to birdie the second, third, sixth and ninth to make the turn at two-under. On his back-nine, Jeev birdied the tenth, 12th, 15th and 17th with a lone bogey on the 13th preventing him from edging to within a stroke from the leader. “I played fantastic golf today,” exclaimed Jeev. “My hard work on the driving range paid off and I was tied first in driving accuracy today,” he smiled.
- Jeev climbs to tied-seventh at Nippon Series JT Cup
TOKYO, December 4 :
Defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh aided by a superb back-nine charge, climbed to tied-seventh place at the mid-way stage of the Yen 130 million Golf Nippon Series JT Club being played at the Tokya Yomiuri Country Club. Jeev’s tournament tally now stands at even-par 140.
Meanwhile, ten-time Tour winner Shigeki Maruyama brought in a card of 67 to take sole possession of the lead at a tournament tally of three-under 137. Tomoiro Kondo, who has four Japan Tour titles under is belt brought in a card identical to Maruyama’s to sit pretty at second place one stroke behind the leader.
Jeev, presently ranked 57th in the world, had a sea of pars on his outward journey interspersed by an unfortunate bogey on the fifth. After the lemon break however, the Indian went on the aggressive, posting birdies on the 11th, 14th and 17th, with a lone bogey on the 13th, marring what would have otherwise been a picture perfect back-nine card. “It is ironic. I putted and found greens in regulation better yesterday but my game just clicked on those birdie holes on the back-nine,” said Jeev who admitted that his driving still needed some working on.
- Jeev tied-10th at Nippon Series JT Cup
TOKYO, December 3 : On a high scoring day at the Tokya Yomiuri Country Club, defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh shot an opening round 71 to tied tenth at the Yen 130 million Golf Nippon Series JT Club here today.
Meanwhile, four golfers shared the lead at the final leg of the Japan Golf Tour’s 2009 season. Masaya Tomida, Kyung-Tae Kim, Brendan Jones and Hiroyuki Fujita tallied one-under 69 apiece to sit atop the leader-board.
Jeev started his round in style with a birdie and looked good till the fourth hole, where a double bogey set him back by two strokes. “I was a little wayward off the tee-box,” said the 38 year old referring to the unfortunate incident. Indeed, for most of the day, did the Chandigarh Golf Club pro struggle to find the fairway. It speaks volumes for the other departments of his game that he still finished within two strokes of the leader. On his back-nine, Jeev birdied the 11th but dropped a shot on the 16th.
“I need to work on my driving and my sand saves today but overall, I’m happy with my performance,” said Jeev, currently ranked 57th in the world.
